How on Earth Do You Get a Dog to Stop Barking?
It can be one of the most frustrating things for dog owners: A dog that will just not stop barking. You just want peace and quiet, but the dog on the other hand couldn’t care less, right? Well - it’s not like the dog is barking on purpose just to upset you. You’ve got to start becoming more aware of the “dog’s barking trends”.
Try to be more attentive. What’s the cause of it? Is it something that’s really obvious which is setting him off or is it something more subtle? A lot of times a dog will bark when he sees someone they are not familiar with. Dogs, being a natural territorial animal, will bark at that person, as to say “get off my property”.
The real key to get your dog to stop barking is to simply be prepared. Know what’s the cause of it and act upon it before he starts barking. For instance, if the dog barks at the mailman, be prepared for it. You should have some idea of when your mailman delivers the mail everyday. Around that time, put a leash on your dog. When you start to see the mail car give a little tug on the leash, before he even gets a chance to bark. It’s a nice jolt to the system.
Even better, if you are outside, is to have a little water pistol handy. If you know what triggers your dogs bark, squirt him with water before he gets a chance to bark. He’ll soon figure out there are consequences for the barking. Also this doesn’t mean anything if you don’t reward him for when he doesn’t bark. They need both positive and negative reinforcement.

how on earth do i make her stop barking?
she is so….aah!!!! she’s reaching my limits. she bark like crazy, like she’s having a heart attack, its annoying the heck outta me, am sure that my neighbors feel the same way. i’ve tryed EVERYTHING, punishing her by putting her in her cage, right after i talk to her firmly, spraying her with water, taking away her privilages like laying on my bed. tapping her nose. she’ll go crazy barking but as soon as i look at her she will stop, but still grouls, as soo as a turn around, she’ll go at it again. she has barked by my ear sooo many times when we are at the couch. i’ve even hit her with my tv remote, but that doesnt work, time out…nothing works, please help, should i put a muzzle on her?

she’s a pit bull mix, who knows with what, and shes about 2 years old, shes a rescue from the pound, about 6 months ago.
Try adding honey to her water.
Punishing her will only make her react more.
Think of why she is barking?
Is she getting enough attention? Exercise? Sleep?
Remember barking is a dogs way of getting your attention.

What kind of dog do you have? Is it possible you got a barky breed? Dogs bark for territorial reasons whether it is to warn you of danger, fend off intruders etc. According to my Behavior Textbook you should reward the no barking behavior as opposed to punishing the barking. Get your treats ready for when the barking stops. The only other thing I can recommend is a shock collar however it may work but studies have showed shock increases aggression in animals. I do not support shocking but if treating while not barking doesn’t work you may have no choice. Whatever you do, do not muzzle the dog. Animals regulate heat through their mouth and risk a heat stroke if muzzled for long periods of time.

A muzzle will not quiet her…. She sounds bored! Does she have plenty of chew toys and chew bones? Do you walk her atleast once a day and spend time playing with her? Has she been taught anything like sit and stay? When she barks tell her no if that doesn’t work, put some coins in a metal can and shake it at her. Use it for all her unwanted behaviors, and only unwanted behaviors. It can work wonders… be sure to give her love and treats when she does good and use discipline when she does bad. Never be mean or you will never succeed. She also needs to have bedtime. Tell her everynight at the same time to get in her bed. Pat her bed and when she complies pat her head and tell her good girl. She cannot have your attn all the time. Tell her no and too lay down or give her a chew toy.
What breed is the dog, some are very hyper!!! and very needy!!!
Last resort is to have her vocal chords burned so she can’t bark.

hmmm what kind of dog do you have? How old?
First off is the dog barking because she needs something, food water out? Her toy. Attention?
I suggest you take her to dog classes or get a book on training a dog. She needs to learn to pay more attention to what you are saying ot her. obedience training will help teach her to listen to you.
In the mean time get some good treats. Not dog biscuits Blah! Good treats like bits of cooked liver, small bites of boiled chicken. When she stops barking give her a treat.
When she is barking quietly tell her no. Repeat it several times. Once she shuts of, even briefly, give her a good treat. once she starts catching on and is quiet longer give her some nice atttention like play with her, pet her. ETc. giving her negative attention has not worked try positive.
But at least get a training book from the library.

My outdoor dog barked from sunup to sundown. I tried lots of attention, trying to find out what she wanted etc. Finally I bought a collar that gives a mild shock. (the ones that emits a sound did nothing). The instructions said that it would take up to 3 months to curb her barking. It took over 12 monthes with her.
After that sometimes I would have to use it for a week to remind her not to bark.
She now barks very little and I have not use the collar on her for several years.

What kind of dog she and how old. What kind of diet does she have. And does she have nervous disorder. My advice is that when she is barking too much after a stern warnig of BE QUIET she gets a whipping. Remember when she gets quiet when you look at her? She knows she is wrong and deserves her punishment. When she is being punished I would use this rule of thumb- WHEN YOU THINK SHE HAS HAD ENOUGH AND SHE WAILING AWAY TO THE TUNE OF BLOODY MURDER SHE PROBABLY IS JUST STARTING TO GET THE PICTURE! So go a little more and let her sulk. (At least a half an hour before you talk to her again UNLESS SHE STARTS AGAIN! and when you do "say I still LOVE you " don’t be too gushy about it a short pat on the head a little scratch in her favorite place and thats it for a few hours. Be responsible, Be consistant and be humane. Being humane is punishment to the point of learning and cruelty is when you do it and the dog does not learn because you did not make an impression to stop the destructive behavior and make that impression every time. Good Luck!!!!!

maybe a shock collar, It worked for me. Also take a empty pop can, add some pennies and covet the hole with tape. When she barks toss it at her and say no bark
