Why is my dog Erika growling at everyone who picks her up or touches her tommy?
<< How do I stop my rescued dog from growling at my adult sons? how do I keep my dog from growling and biting when I brush her? >>My dog Erika she growls at everyone who touches her belly or picks her up can someone or does anyone know why?
There could be numerous medical reasons causing this. It could be behavioral, but the chances are pretty high that it's medical (especially if this is a change in behavior.)
It could be a tumor, something she ate, a hernia, any number of things.
I had a small dog long time ago and my parents weren't really great about taking her to the vet. She only lived until she was nine. She had started to get seizures really bad. But since she was about four to six and until she died she had gotten really snappy about anyone picking her up and sometimes got moody when you pet her belly. I haven't really seen much mention of it online or in other health books, but a few years back I read this one and what it described really sounded like what she had. I've never heard the term before or since. I can't even remember what it's called. Look for the book 'Caring For Your Older Dog' by Chris C. Pinney.
See your vet as soon as possible, but get this book and look for mention of this disease. It's a really short mention of it. When you do find it talk to your vet about it (If they haven't found the cause of your dog's problem.) If they haven't heard of it call around until you find a vet who has. (Or at least get a second opinion.)
Good luck. It's no fun for the dog to be in pain, and it's no fun for you to have a dog that seems unaffectionate or moody.

She;s letting you know her tummy is hurting. Has she gotten a foxtail stuck in it, or has it gotten scratched on anything?
If not, you should probably take her to the vet to get it checked out. It could be something internal.

Has she always growled when you tried to pick her up or touch her belly or is this something she recently started doing? It's very possible that something is causing her pain in that area. You know what it's like when you are in pain somewhere and someone touches you there. It's very sensitive. You need to take her to the vet and I would do it very soon. Something sounds off and only a vet is going to be able to tell you what's going on!

It sounds like her stomach hurts. If she growls only when you touch her stomach, then it hurts and she needs to go to the vet.
